Speech & Language Services

Screening

A screening is a free preliminary assessment, typically lasting 10-15 minutes, designed to identify possible communication challenges. The clinician will observe and informally assess the areas of articulation, language comprehension and expression, fluency, and pragmatics. The screening is used to determine if further evaluation is warranted.

Evaluation

A comprehensive evaluation is a thorough assessment to evaluate and diagnose speech and language delays. An evaluation involves standardized tests, clinical observation, and parent/caregiver report. We tailor evaluations to the child’s age and needs, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. A written report will be provided, and the clinician and family will develop goals to be targeted during therapy sessions if treatment is recommended. Additionally, long-term communication goals will also be discussed to develop a treatment plan to improve overall communication.

Treatment

Treatment sessions are one-on-one and typically last 30 minutes. Sessions begin according to the agreed-upon treatment plan, focusing on areas of need, which may include: articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, and pragmatics. Activities are designed to be fun and engaging. Parents and caregivers will receive guidance on how to support the child’s communication development outside of therapy sessions. This involvement enhances generalization of skills into daily routines. Progress will be monitored closely, and therapy goals and strategies will be adjusted as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
